WAYLAND PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING
This new, 30,000 sf, state-of-the-art building, designed by Finegold Alexander and Associates, houses the headquarters for the Fire and Police Departments complete with dispatch center, training tower, drive-through bays, vehicle exhaust system, bunk rooms, locker room, meeting space, sally port, holding cells and storage space.
Challenges included the application of the new energy code to the roofing, windows, exterior walls and foundation slab and, due to the site’s extremely high water table, the creation of an extensive drainage system to continually pump water away from the construction site. The abatement of hazardous materials was performed on the existing station on this site prior to its demolition. Colantonio also constructed a cost-effective, cover-all building to be used as temporary housing for the fire apparatus.
