Colantonio Inc.’s Weston Field Elementary School Project recently received the Associated General Contractors (AGC) 2015 Build New England Performance Award at the organization’s annual awards gala held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston.
According to the AGC, the program recognizes construction project teams for their “collaborative approach to planning, designing and building facilities that meet the vision and goals of the owner and enhance the community in which the project resides.”
The team built a new, 65,000 square foot school in the heart of Weston’s Case Complex and demolished the existing Field School without disrupting operations of the seven other municipal buildings on the campus. Challenges included the unexpected excavation of van-sized boulders and building to a unique, zero-tolerance design using innovative materials such as Brazilian hardwood and light-deflection panels. The team also collaborated on the school’s science/math fairs and problem-solving workshops to present students with authentic learning opportunities.
The winning project team also includes the Town of Weston; Jonathan Levi Architects; Compass Project Management; E. Amanti and Sons; CAM HVAC and Construction, and Wayne J. Griffin Electric.
